Sarah Amengual will take over the role of Maria in West Side Story beginning September 21 at the Palace Theatre. Josefina Scaglione, who received a 2009 Tony nomination for her performance, will play her final show on September 19.
West Side Story will mark Amengual's Broadway debut. A recent graduate of the University of Miami, she has appeared in regional productions of Les Miserables, Parade, Ruthless and Rent.
Directed by Arthur Laurents, the current Broadway revival of West Side Story opened on March 19, 2009. The show currently stars Matthew Hydzik as Tony, Natalie Cortez as Anita, John Arthur Greene as Riff and George Akram as Bernardo.
